What is the connection between democracy in the workplace and democracy in the country as a whole? At a roundtable held with Prof. Bettina Kohlrausch, scientific research director at the Institute of Economic and Social Research at the Hans Böckler Foundation of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), and senior economists from Israel and Germany, Tomer Resnik, department head and deputy chair of the Histadrut, put this question at the center of the discussion. Resnik opened by saying that one of the main problems today is the blurring between how commercial companies operate and how a government is expected to operate. Norms from the labor market are seeping into the political sphere: if a manager can fire employees

Employee participation saves lives! The Industrial Democracy Department congratulates the Crane Operators’ Union on receiving approval to declare a labor dispute. This is a significant step toward putting safety at the top of the agenda and ensuring employee involvement in decisions that directly affect their lives. In 2025, 47 workers were killed in work accidents—59 percent of all 80 fatalities across all sectors. 629 workers were moderately to critically injured, including 300 in construction. These figures require a fundamental change in the safety culture at construction sites. In this case, it is clear just how vital employee involvement in the decision-making process is, including in selecting and fitting protective equipment

We are very busy with the question of who will make the decisions in the country; this is also a good time to ask ourselves how decisions are made in our workplaces. In many workplaces, decisions are still made in management rooms, and only afterward passed on to the employees required to carry them out. The very people who know the work firsthand, the recurring problems and what can be improved, remain outside the process. This means organizations give up knowledge and experience that could improve their decisions and results on the ground. It can and should be different. When organizations involve employees in decision-making, their knowledge and experience become

The most important investigation of a workplace accident is the one that takes place before the accident. After a serious workplace accident, everyone asks: Were there warning signs? Did the workers raise the alarm? Could the disaster have been prevented? But why wait for an accident to ask these questions? Workers are on the ground. They know the hazards, the malfunctions and the procedures that do not work. They have knowledge that can save lives. And that is exactly why safety committees exist! These committees have equal numbers of worker and management representatives. Together, they examine hazards, investigate accidents, recommend preventive measures and help set safety rules. We

Under the Labor Inspection Organization Law, a workplace employing 25 or more workers must have a safety committee, with an equal number of employee and management representatives. A law that makes sense! Workers are on the ground. They know the hazards, the malfunctions and the places where something could go wrong before anyone gets hurt, which is why they take part in investigating accidents and hazards, making recommendations for prevention and setting workplace safety rules. When it comes to safety, the law has already understood that better decisions are made together with workers. For us at the Industrial Democracy Department, this is an excellent example of what can and should be expanded to other areas

What does management look like in the new world of work? In the old world of work, decisions are made at the top and employees hear about them afterward. Knowledge remains with those doing the work, initiative is eroded and trust weakens. In the new world of work, employees are part of the process: they are included, their knowledge is heard, and they are given a real place in the decision-making process. It is better for workers, but it is also simply better management: more commitment, more trust and an organization that knows how to work, change and grow together.

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in shekels, from 1 October 2025. Spend is the sum of Meta's range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as "1M+", so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend.
