The written opinion may be the most visible part of an appellate case, but it rests on hours of work the public may never see: studying the record, examining the law, and weighing every argument. That work is essential to reaching a careful decision grounded in the law. I take that responsibility seriously whenever a matter comes before the court.

The judicial oath does not change from case to case. Neither should the standard it demands. A judge must uphold the Constitution, apply the law as written, and decide each case on the facts—not on a preferred policy or outcome. That is the obligation I accepted when I took the bench, and it remains the standard by which I do this work.

Preparation for the Fifteenth Court did not come from any single role. For more than three decades, my career has taken me from a clerkship at the Texas Supreme Court to trial and appellate practice and service as both a trial judge and an appellate justice. Each responsibility deepened my understanding of the law and the work required to decide cases thoughtfully. I hope to continue putting that experience to work for Texans on the Fifteenth Court of Appeals.

The work of an appellate court reaches far beyond a single courtroom. A decision may resolve one dispute, but it can also shape how Texas law is understood and applied by courts across the state. That is especially important on the Fifteenth Court of Appeals, which considers questions involving state government and constitutional challenges. I understand the reach of those decisions, and I keep that responsibility front and center in my work.

Serving as both a district judge and an appellate justice has allowed me to see how a case moves through the judicial system—from the development of the trial-court record to its review on appeal. That experience has reinforced the discipline judicial work requires: close attention to the record and impartial consideration of the issues presented. It is the perspective I bring to the Fifteenth Court of Appeals and hope to continue putting to work for Texans.

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
