Why is it so hard to enforce against double parking in San Francisco? I looked into it, and turns out, we have some outdated state laws hampering enforcement. CA Vehicle Code 40240 does not allow automated enforcement by cameras for double parking, outside of traffic only lanes. CA Vehicle Code 22502 requires a physical street sign to prohibit double parking in commercial delivery and passenger pickup zones. Combined with the fact that officers have to physically put tickets on a car for it

Today I am thrilled to announce a half million dollar investment to establish a Theater Arts District in San Francisco! The theaters bring over a million visitors a year to our city, but the true impact to tourism, small business, and culture is still unrealized. So earlier this year we shared our vision to revitalize downtown by supporting the arts, and today we are following through on that promise. The initial seed funding will invest in activating empty storefronts into independent theater

Did you know if you tried to open a Trader Joe's, Grocery Outlet, or soon even a Mollie Stone's in San Francisco - you can't? That's because SF has a rule that formula retail chain stores that have more than 11 stores (worldwide!) can not open in commercial districts without a conditional use permit. With grocery stores and pharmacies closing across our city, these permits can delay opening new stores by 6-9 months - delaying much needed affordable food in our neighborhoods. So today

This week Mayor Lurie and I introduced legislation to support the largest investment in new homes in the Western Addition in years. Nearly 2400 new homes, including 267 co-ops, 133 affordable units, and 115 affordable senior homes on the Freedom West project. Freedom West was a historic development that created co-ops for the predominantly Black community to own after urban renewal displaced thousands of Black residents. The new project - Freedom West 2.0 - honors that history while ensuring f

The SHADE Act is moving forward to end bogus appeals against housing in San Francisco, as it just got unanimous approval at the Land Use Committee on the Board of Supervisors. Over the last decade, over 2000 homes have been blocked or delayed from being built due to NIMBYs exploiting our environmental laws, appealing these housing developments on the basis they cast a "shadow". With our SHADE Act, such appeals will no longer be possible. Blocking hundreds of units of housing on a vacant parkin

How do we shut down SF's drug market? Start with the data. Five years ago, drug-dealing arrests hit a low: 1,780 a year. Three years ago, the city launched the Drug Market Agency Coordination Center, uniting public health and public safety for the first time. Arrests spiked to 3,223 under then-Commander, now Chief, Lew. Convictions tripled from 16% to 46% under DA Jenkins. It worked. The market shrank. Daytime dealing is gone. So what's stopping us from finishing the job? Adaptation. First,

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
