Just before I went up to moderate the panel at the Eilat Labor Conference, I spoke with Maya Betzalel Asis about a simple question: if workers are the ones creating the value, why do they not share in the profits? At the panel on employee profit-sharing, with a spotlight on the defense industry, we tried to genuinely open up this question—and in my view, this is the conversation we need to be having in the world of work today. Not only about the level of wages, but about how to create genuine partnership, both in profits and in decision-making. Maya Betzalel Asis Histadrut - The New General Federation of Labor
May Day — how workers’ struggles will save Israel. This coming Friday, I will take part in a special event at Beit Radical in Tel Aviv, together with Guy Adler and Inbal Hermoni. We will talk about how Workers’ Day, which grew out of a struggle more than a hundred years ago, relates to workers in Israel in 2026, and what all this has to do with protecting democracy. Thank you to Beit Radical for the initiative and the platform. Friday | 10:30 Ticket link in the first comment. Radical Inbal Hermoni The Reds – People First

Every citizen in Israel lives with anxiety today. Anxiety about personal security—and anxiety about job security. Just before the war, I appeared on the podcast “Crude Political History” and spoke about the most basic need: knowing that things will be okay—that our basic needs are secure. That we can make a decent living, have a home, good education for our children, a healthcare system we can rely on, and a pension to live on when we grow old. Especially in emergencies, a country needs to have citizens’ and workers’ backs, to create a safety net. Instead, it only fuels anxiety and uncertainty.

Three years after October 7, and the wound is still bleeding. Men and women, families, communities and Israeli society as a whole are still living with the price of that day. Since then, we have turned over every stone in search of the assumptions that led to the disaster, but the civilian assumption has remained almost sacred: the belief that you can starve healthcare, welfare, education and public service in routine times, and expect them to be there in an emergency. Three years of war have shown us time and again that the home front is also a front. A country that wants to stand by its citizens in a moment of crisis must build that capacity in normal times.

The answer to collapse is building Two years since the founding of The Democrats The last elections ended in catastrophe. Meretz remained below the electoral threshold and outside the Knesset after falling short by about 3,000 votes, and the Labor Party crashed to an unprecedented low number of seats. We got the most right-wing and extremist Knesset in Israel’s history, with Bibi, Smotrich and Ben-Gvir in the government. The rupture was enormous, politically but also personally, for every one of us. We were all overwhelmed by the deep and difficult realization that things could have been different, and that so many things need to be done differently. For me, that first and foremost translated into the insight that the answer to collapse is building. This crisis, and
