• We continue to work to correct an injustice affecting young people who have lost a parent and their families. Today, survivors' benefits may be discontinued during the waiting period between the end of studies, a service year or a pre-military academy and the start of military or national service—precisely when the family's expenses continue. In cooperation with MK Yonatan Mishraki, an amendment to the National Insurance Law is being advanced to ensure continuity of survivors' benefits for young men and women who have lost a parent during this period as well. In the video, MK Mishraki addresses the importance of the amendment and the efforts to advance the bill during the upcoming Knesset session.

• A country that speaks of national resilience and mutual responsibility cannot leave civilian bereaved families to cope alone. Today, the Knesset Labor and Welfare Committee held a discussion on the rights of widows, widowers and orphans, initiated by the Hamanim Association in cooperation with committee chair MK Michal Waldiger and additional Knesset members. Hadar Kes, founder and CEO of the Hamanim Association, who founded Hamanim less than a decade after losing her father, said at the discussion, more than a decade after her loss: “Unfortunately, nothing has really changed since then in what the state provides.” “Most orphaned children (97%) lost a parent to illnesses such as cancer, and they receive nothing.”

• On Widows' Day 2026, marked by the Hamanim Association at the Knesset, awards of appreciation were presented to Knesset members who chose over the past year to work for widows, widowers and children who have lost a parent. Thanks to this partnership, issues that had remained on the margins for years reached the heart of the public and parliamentary agenda. The excitement throughout the Knesset was immense. It stemmed from the understanding that real change begins when there are people willing to take responsibility and committed to making it happen. We thank everyone who took part in this journey, and look forward to continuing the cooperation in the next Knesset session in order to advance the legislative amendments that families so desperately need

• Yesterday, the Knesset Special Committee on Young People, chaired by MK Naama Lazimi, held a discussion led by the Hamanim Association. Three central issues were discussed: 🌻A dedicated framework for soldiers who lost a parent during their military service. 🌻Ending the suspension of survivors' benefits for young orphans during the waiting period before enlistment/national service. 🌻Expanding rights for children who immigrated to Israel after losing a parent in their country of origin.
