• The Sharon–Carmel region: about 20% of Israel’s energy is produced here. The region is home to the Orot Rabin coal-fired power station—the most polluting facility in Israel. Dozens of people here die and fall ill every year from air pollution. 😡 And now—instead of initiating a national energy plan that includes ending the era of coal, the Ministry of Energy is planning to build at least five more power stations here. • We oppose the temporary permit granted for the storage of coal ash at the Orot Rabin power station, which has resulted in residents of the Sharon Carmel region once again breathing in coal ash blowing from the power station. The association supports and works for energy security, especially at this time. However, the Ministry of Environmental Protection approved a temporary permit without thoroughly examining other feasible operational alternatives proposed by the association. The association’s director general, Nir Sahar, contacted the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Israel Electric Corporation, demanding the immediate implementation of alternative solutions that would prevent the dispersal of pollutants. • We will not allow harm to and deception of the public. The association is acting against the continued operation of the coal-fired units! The Ministry of Environmental Protection is misleading the public when, on the one hand, it declares the end of the coal era, while on the other it approves an emissions permit that enables the continued operation of the coal-fired units at the Orot Rabin power station for additional years. The association opposes the new emissions permit. Instead of protecting residents’ health, the decision continues to expose residents of the region to health risks and pollution.
