• This week, 15 families were evicted from their homes in Silwan for the benefit of the Ateret Cohanim organization. While the state allows families to be thrown out of their homes for settlers, Palestinians face severe restrictions on construction. This is a longstanding policy under which Israeli authorities almost never approve building permits for residents of East Jerusalem. The situation forces many to build illegally and live knowing that at any moment they may find themselves on the street, watching their home be ruthlessly demolished.
