• “The expectation that principals should serve both as the Ministry of Education’s tax collectors and as producers of activities whose costs have long not been updated is unreasonable!” Trips and enrichment activities are an integral part of an educational system, but school principals are unable to enforce collection from parents. It is therefore time for collecting payments from parents, or arranging public funding, to be transferred to the Ministry of Education. It is also clear to anyone with common sense that for many years the sums have not covered the ever-rising costs, and therefore what is required is an update to the amounts and regulation of collection not through the school. • Manhigim CEO Gil Mushkovitz was removed from a meeting of the Education Committee after he addressed the minister and asked why he was ignoring thousands of school principals across the country, and held up a sign calling on him to come out of “flight mode.” The incident comes at the height of an unprecedented struggle by thousands of principals, demanding a halt to decisions that harm students’ education and the opening of a professional dialogue to save the education system, after more than 1,000 principals left their positions last summer alone.
