  • New report! Gender inequality in Israel continues to shape women's economic reality throughout their lives—from entering the labor market, through partnership and parenthood, to old age. A study by the Adva Center, initiated by Na'amat and authored by Attorney Noga Dagan-Buzaglo, Dr. Miri Endeweld-Sabag and Tehila Sharabi, presents the mechanisms of reproduction, exclusion and attrition that lead to persistent poverty, especially among disadvantaged groups. Download the full document: Poverty and Economic Inequality from a Gender Perspective >> https://adva.org/he/women-poverty The study presents a complex picture: alongside a steady rise in education and labor-market participation, many women

  • They told us inequality in Israel had narrowed, but a large share of the rich's income was not included in the calculation at all. A new Adva Center simulation, based on Israel Tax Authority data, shows that after correcting for capital income, the income of the top decile in 2021 grew by 36%. The gap between it and the bottom decile jumps from 13.7 times to 18.2 times. The conclusion changes the entire picture: between 2015 and 2021, inequality did not decline—it actually increased.

  • The school year is beginning, elections are approaching—and there is one figure every parent needs to know: one psychologist for every 1,500 students. In 2022, there were 2,326 filled positions for educational psychologists, alongside 997 positions that remained unfilled. Filling the existing positions would still be far from enough. According to the Public Psychology Organizations Forum's estimate, another 2,674 positions are needed to ensure accessible therapeutic services for every student. As noted, the current reality is an average of one psychologist for around 1,500 students. All this is happening while professionals warn of an alarming rise in mental distress, especially

  • The data we revealed for the first time today in the lead headline in TheMarker: inequality has not shrunk; it has been hidden in capital income For the study by Dr. Miri Endeweld-Sabag and Max Grobman https://adva.org/he/income-inequality Capital income tends to be undercounted in household surveys, a phenomenon documented in the research literature and not unique to Israel. Since this income is concentrated primarily among high-income households, its partial measurement may bias inequality estimates downward. This paper presents a simulation for calculating income inequality in Israel in 2015–2021, in which the capital-income component was recalculated

  • A resident of Kiryat Shmona was interviewed over the weekend by Shay Golden and Eyal Berkovic on Channel 13 News. He painfully told them how he was forced this summer to leave Kiryat Shmona and move with his family to Afula because there was no livelihood. He was asked, “How does that work?” Or in other words, “Who will you sell or rent your apartment in Kiryat Shmona to, because who would come there?” To the interviewers’ surprise, the interviewee said that there is actually demand in Kiryat Shmona—new residents are arriving from “Judea and Samaria” and receiving grants, benefits and rental assistance. “But what about me?” he asked. It may be that the “newcomers” whom the interviewee identified as “people from Judea and Samaria” are
