Facebook Friends - this is an action alert we sent out this morning on defending the Roadless Rule in Florida's national forests. See link below. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA - parent agency of the U.S. Forest Servce) is taking comments for two more days on its plan to pull the plug on keeping "inventoried roadless areas" off limits to road building and logging nationwide. For Florida's three national forests - Apalachicola, Ocala, and Osceola - about 50,000 acres are curre

Facebook friends—please sign the petition! See link at the bottom of this post. Last week, virtually all habitat protections for endangered and threatened species that have been in effect for more than 50 years under the U.S. Endangered Species Act were removed by the current administration. SFWA has written a comprehensive petition to President Trump urging him to reverse this harmful change. The administration's opinion of the lawsuit related to renovations to a historic golf course on National Park Service property (and a hotspot for birds and other wildlife in the Washington D.C. metro area) should NOT determine the outcome here. The case involves federal propery and is being heard in federal court. A big part of the underlying lawsuit is that the president's renovation plan has not gone through the required historical and environmental analysis necessary on federal land. Let the

There are many versions of denial when it comes to climate change and the inevitable rise in sea levels. The most basic - insist that it simply isn’t happening and that scientists have somehow gotten their measurements wrong. Another is to acknowledge that it may be happening but deny that it has anything to do with our massive emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. “It’s just natural change,” we’re told. Yet another form of denial was on display a few days ago when the Hollywo

Yet another move by the administration in Washington that has many shaking their heads. While news stories are covering the legality of the hundreds of trees that were cut down over the holiday weekend at East Potomac Golf Links (a National Park Service-owned property), little attention has been given to the ecology of the East Potomac Park where this historic golf course is located. Nor have the ecological consequences been covered. In fact, East Potomac Park is a known ecological hotspot, hos

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
