Know your history, then vote YES on the 0.5% sales tax this November. Voters passed a 0.2% sales tax dedicated to road maintenance in 2016. When crafting that ballot question, City staff advised the City Commission that a 0.5% tax was needed to keep up with our deteriorating streets, but the commission chose to ask the voters for only a 0.2% sales tax. That hasn’t been enough to keep up with less-trafficked neighborhood roads, like McCain Lane.

Your Vote Will Fix This Street When Manhattan passes the 0.5% sales tax for roads on Nov. 3, streets like Wreath Avenue will finally have dedicated funding to be fixed. The City’s plan for the first five years of this increased sales tax is to focus $6 million of the $8 million generated each year on neighborhood streets.

Using sales tax rather than property tax to improve Manhattan’s roads distributes the cost among everyone who drives our streets. A large increase in property taxes would be required to generate $8 million more a year for road maintenance. Using sales tax allows visitors to Manhattan who drive on our roads to contribute. The City estimates about $2 million per year will be generated for road maintenance from visitor spending. Learn more, then vote YES on this initiative.

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
