  • I'm running for county commissioner because our current commissioners have stopped doing the job. Nobody wants the county running their business or their life. But the county sets the rules everyone works within: where homes go, what roads and water they'll need, and what's required before a project shows up. When a commission won't plan, the problem arrives anyway and you pay more to fix it. Here's the plan I want for the Flathead. We write data center rules before a proposal ever shows up, s

  • Ask our county commissioners where the next generation of local families is supposed to live. You won't get an answer, because there isn't a plan. A home in the Flathead costs about $653,000. A family here earns about $77,000 a year. That means a home costs more than eight times what a family makes in a year. In 2019, it was less than six. The county's big-picture plan for land use says it should be updated at least every five years. The last real update was in 2012. They've refreshed some num

  • In February, Lakeside residents packed a county meeting to oppose a 159-foot dock for a luxury marina. One commissioner told them, "We're not allowed to make decisions based on emotion." The vote was unanimous. He's right, and that's the problem. By the time a project is in front of the commission, the rules decide it, not the crowd. The county needs to hear what you want before that, when it's writing the plan. Communities across the country are making the same mistake with data centers. The

  • Flathead County has no rules for data centers. That includes how loud one can be and how close it can sit to your house. Outside Granbury, Texas, more than two dozen people living near a bitcoin mine, which is basically a data center, sued over the noise. They report migraines, vertigo, hearing loss and trouble sleeping. Much of the complaint is infrasound: sound so low you can barely hear it, but neighbors say they can feel it. Outside Mansfield, in rural Georgia, families across the road fro

  • Flathead County doesn’t have any rules for data centers, and the county’s big-picture plan hasn’t had a real update since 2012. Our co-op’s cheap federal hydro is already spoken for. If a data center plugs in, the co-op has to buy expensive new power, and members cover the cost. That’s you and me. We need a one-year pause so the county writes its rules before a proposal shows up. Imagine that, planning for the future instead of figuring it out on the fly. Ballots are due November 3. Paid for

  • It's the office that sets your property taxes, manages your emergency response, and decides what money gets spent on, and the one most people skip on the ballot. Whether working families can afford to live in the Flathead runs straight through what a county commissioner decides. That's why I'm running, and why this race comes down to who shows up. Election Day is November 3.
