  • When the federal gov't turned off SNAP in the fall, I sought advice from Councilmembers Steelhammer and Kerns, checked in with service providers, and brought a plan to the Mayor's Office that included funding the food banks and making sure Parks and Rec Centers could feed kids and families. Mayor Goodwin and her Chief of Staff Matthew Sutton further refined the plan, and Council voted it through. As a result, some of your neighbors didn't go hungry.

  • Second chances matter. When I first got onto City Council in 2023, I asked for help getting naloxone into every city building. It took a minute but with the help of the Mayor's Office, the City Manager, and Charleston Fire Dept, and the city's CARE team training staff... it got done. Naloxone is an antidote--not just for overdoses, but for stigma. It shows we're a city that's reckoning with this crisis. These are some of your wins: → We supported 2 opioid money town halls in 2025, and then worked with community advocates, Mayor Goodwin and City Council to direct $900,000 in the city's opioid settlement funds for local projects through a volunteer

  • Sometimes it's the smaller things. Two years ago, Conni reached out about the downtown parking spots that were reserved as loading zones 24/7. Conni's point was: why not free up those spots in the evening? That way more folks eating dinner at restaurants, checking out the library, etc could have more parking options...after most or all loading has already taken place for the day. I brought this up with the city's excellent Traffic, Parking and Transportation team. ...And they loved the id

  • I was grateful to be a part of passing a bill that ended first offense fines and jail time for simple possession of cannabis. This was an op-ed I published before the vote.
