A company that just got turned away in Oregon wants to build a 100-megawatt AI data center near Broadland, northwest of Huron. It would pull power off our grid and run diesel generators for backup. The company says water use will be "minimal." Compared to what? They chose the site to hook into specific substation lines. Who pays for that, and how do you know it won't show up on you co-op bill? And when the AI bubble pops, who gets stuck with cleanup of a warehouse that took farmland out of circ

I've spent 13 years in an ambulance. You learn a few things. You learn the call never comes at a good time. You learn that, on the worst day of their life, people don't care what your voter registration says, only whether you've got the skills to help. And you learn that the people who show up are almost always neighbors. That's how I want to do this job. Show up. Do the boring work. Answer the call, even when it isn't convenient. I'm asking for your vote. Early voting is open now at your cou

When you call 911 in South Dakota, no law says an ambulance has to come. That surprises people. Roads, schools, and fire protection all have someone responsible for them. Ambulance services don't. A lot of the services around here run on volunteers who are getting older, and many can't cover their costs on what Medicare and Medicaid pay. This year, a bill to make EMS an essential service died in committee in Pierre. Last month a legislative task force said a regional ambulance system will take

Last Saturday, the Huron Chamber hosted a forum for the District 22 House race. Thanks to the Chamber for putting it on, and to Ben Chase at the Plainsman for covering it. My favorite line in the story is that most issues in Pierre aren't black and white. They're shades of gray. I believe that, and I think the job is to work through the gray for the people that live here. If you missed it, the full story is in the Plainsman. Early voting is open now at your county auditor's office.

Right now a data center could get built in South Dakota without a vote from anybody. My bill stops that. Before anything goes up, the county or city holds a public hearing and votes in the open. Neighbors within a mile get written notice thirty days ahead. The developer files a report covering water, power, noise, traffic, emergency services, and cleanup, and pays for it themselves instead of putting it on the county. The water math gets done against the worst drought on record, not an average

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
