When big #tech wants a #datacenter in your town — and you don't — who wins? 👇 Tom Tiffany says your community will. He calls it local control, and he's promised it for over a decade. So we looked at the record. 2013: western #Wisconsin towns tried to regulate the frac sand mines in their backyards. Tiffany wrote a bill to take that power away — while calling it "local control." 2015: lake counties had shoreline rules they'd held since 1968. He helped end them in the state budget. 2026: Bayf

This plant has been running since 1961. Seventy-five jobs in De Pere end between October and January. The floor there is union, Sheet Metal Workers Local 18. Last November a New York private equity firm took a 75% stake in the company. This month the company filed notice. Colorado runs a state office whose whole job is helping companies convert to employee ownership, and it covers up to three quarters of the legal and accounting cost. Wisconsin had a version of that. It passed the Assembly nin

There was a fix for this. Hospitals are short staffed. That's a risk to patients, and it burns out the people who stay. About 800 union hospital techs at Essentia in Duluth and Superior are trying to fix it at their hospitals. They've been working without a contract since the end of June. Essentia's own bargaining updates show the wage packages moving. What's stuck is having enough people on the floor to do the job safely, written into the contract instead of left to the schedule. The fight

$100 million a year. That's what #Oracle could owe just to power its #Wisconsin data center, and it's fighting to avoid paying. Oracle's credit rating dropped over its #AI spending. Wisconsin regulators require #datacenters to prove they can cover the cost of the power plants built to serve them, so ratepayers don't get stuck with the tab. Oracle fell short and sued to change the rule. Regulators aren't budging. If you want the power, you cover the cost.

There was a fix for this. One question kept coming back. Who's actually going to be in this building? Under an NDA, residents were told. Senate Bill 969 would have banned that. Committee said pass it, 4 to 1. The state Senate went home in March without calling a vote. Town by town, people are doing the work the state hasn't. The bill is already written. It just needs a vote.

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
