I’ve spent most of my life trying to understand North Carolina. Now I’m focused on what it can become. That’s what this account is about. You don’t have to agree with me on everything. But if you care about where North Carolina is headed, you’re in the right place. Follow along. We’ve got a good state to make even better. One more thing: I’m doing a fellowship with Trusting News. Take the quick survey in my bio and tell me what you think.

🔥🔥 DEBATE: Who can claim to be “from” North Carolina? I had to out myself on a podcast this week, but I think if you move to NC before age 10 you have a real strong claim. Let me know what you think in the comments. #ncpol #northcarolina

Tucked in the new state budget is a provision that gives prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi a completely free pass. It basically says the state will not regulate them … ever. The General Assembly should fix this when they come back into session for a budget corrections bill. #ncpol

Figures cover domestic political ads paid in dollars, from 4 May 2026. Spend is the sum of Meta’s range midpoints; impressions above one million are reported as “1M+”, so impression figures are floors. Each ad counts in the week its delivery started, with its lifetime spend at our last pull; ads still running before the vote are counted as of 31 October 2026.
